DON’T TELL US THE FACTS
Marketing observations from Don't Look Up.
You can't just tell people the facts.
Be very careful crafting your message and choosing the media to share it. "Media training" is no joke.
I appreciate the cultural critique, though, with the statement, "She needs media training." Why can't we just be honest and say it like it is? Why can't we just tell people the facts?
I'll tell you why. It's wisdom as old as the Bible. You can't tell people what they don't want to hear.
Every message needs two things: "empathy and authority," to quote Donald Miller of #storybrand But Miller got this from the Bible–"Speak the truth in love." Yes, give people the facts, but first give them some love. Identify with them and share the pain with them. Messaging, as is leadership, is about "building trust, sharing pain, and offering hope." J.R. Briggs
